OPENING LETTER AND RULES
FROM THE SECRITARY - 2023 season
Custom Engraving Golf League

Welcome back to another year of fun golf at Lakeview Golf & Country Club. I hope everyone had a
good winter.
Handicap will be based on 90% of the difference of your score and par. We will not drop any weeks
this year in determining your handicap. Any new player in our league will establish their handicap on the
first night of play. Any player with a handicap from last year will use their handicap from last year.
The maximum number of strokes allowed on any hole is double par of that hole.
A match consists of 20 points. 2 points for each hole and 2 points for total. Team points will be the
total of the two matches. The two lowest handicap players will play each other. While the two highest
handicap players play each other. This will be automatically setup by the computer each week. Sometimes it
looks like two players have the same handicap but, in the computer, there are fractions which the computer
will use to determine who plays whom. You must play the person the computer has scheduled you to play or
that person’s substitute.
Again, this year there is a maximum of two strokes per hole that you have to give to any one golfer.
Winter lies are in affect all season, in your own fairway only.
This year any player 67 years of age or older is allowed to play from the yellow tees, (Women’s
tees) any player 80 years of age or older may play from the red tees, (forward most tees).
Our tee times are 4:00 to 5:30. Please do not put your ball up until your foursome is present at the
tee. If the course allows, you can jump in anywhere there is an opening. Any team not present by 5:30 and
has not made other arrangements forfeits the match.
If only one player is present for a team the player who is missing will receive points based on the
play of his partner who will be playing both members of the other team. If both players are absent the team
that does play will play the course. With a tie one point will go to the player and one point will go to the
course. You can use any substitute you want either off the list or anyone of your choice. If that person puts
his phone number on the score card, I will put him on the list.
We will alternate sides beginning with the front unless otherwise specified by Lakeview Golf &
Country Club.
The club pro will determine if the course is playable. The league officers will determine if we play in
inclement weather. This determination will be made at the course so please show up as though we are going
to play.
Let’s try to speed play up as much as possible. Remember it’s more fun if we keep moving along.
Please only 5 minutes should be spent looking for a lost ball.
All skins will alternate every two weeks between handicap and scratch skins this year. The first two
weeks will be handicap skins.
We will play out of the sand traps this year only if they are playable and have been maintained. If
needed you can pick your ball up, rake the sand, and then replace your ball in the raked sand. If the sand
trap is unplayable because of water, you can pull the ball out and then play with no penalty. If there are no
racks the sand trap can be considered not maintained and unplayable.
You must make any arrangements to play at a different time with your opponent and Jack in
the pro shop. In the past everyone has been very accommodating but you need to give them the curtsey
of talking to them first. If you can not get a hold of your opponent please call me. If you have an
emergency and can not play that night please call me or the golf course. Score cards should be dropped
at my house by Monday night.
